Full inset white oak cabinets complement the traditional timber in the ceiling while lightening the mood and feel of the bright kitchen

• Objectives: The intention of this remodel project was to breathe new life and invigorate a dated, timber-laden home with the energy reflective of the young homeowners raising their children here. While maintaining the architectural envelope, which is mountain craftsman, the project team combined several small spaces on the upper level to create a luxurious retreat of a primary bedroom featuring a dressing room with space for a yoga session, an office space and a bedroom with two sitting areas. The team introduced new materials throughout to brighten the originally dark interiors, including reflective plaster walls, reflective metals in tiles and bold pops of color, as well as leather walls, mantels and pony wall caps that create moments of interest in every nook.

• Special and Unique Features: The combination of materials throughout are atypical of the norm in the region. The wellness and fun level with quartz monolith all-glass walls are especially unique.

• Why it Won an Award: “We feel like this is a great example of what is possible with existing structures in the area,” says interior designer Lindsay Bourgeois. “Rather than tear the house down, by combining thoughtful layouts and exciting new materials, we were able to revitalize this home to be a welcoming, useful space for a design-savvy, busy family.”
