Targeted views celebrate Lake Tahoe throughout the interiors

• Objectives: The Villa Suites (the villas) were envisioned as secluded, luxurious and memorable multi-bedroom residences for events and family gatherings. Their design maximizes proximity to the scenic lakeshore environment and central location within Edgewood Tahoe Resort. The primary design objective—to celebrate Lake Tahoe—was achieved through careful siting among the trees to screen the heavier masses and expose the windows. The layout focuses on wide-open spaces, primary bedrooms and lake-facing balconies and patios, while interior vaulted ceilings and high windows orient viewers toward Lake Tahoe.

• Special and Unique Features: Scissor trusses with vaulted windows extend the interior spaces into the landscape, continuing with expansive patios complete with personal spas overlooking the ninth fairway and lake vistas. Tailored bathroom windows complement spa-like freestanding bathtubs, maintaining occupants’ connection to the lake while bathing. Custom wood paneling brings the iconic Edgewood Tahoe branches into the living spaces. Entries offer direct views from the front door through the villa to the lake.

• Why it Won an Award: The villas, which were designed to achieve LEED Silver status, exemplify iconic Lake Tahoe design, blending Old Tahoe forms and colors with modern lines, windows and details. They pay tribute to Tahoe’s natural beauty without imposing on the lake or surroundings, adhering to long-established alpine principles such as attention to sun exposure. entry protection, snow shedding and simplicity of form.
